The Economy The current state of the economy is abysmal. The cost
of goods and services continues to rise faster than our paychecks. What retirement many of us have has shrunk drastically with the
decline of the stock market. Major corporations and financial houses that we thought symbolized stability have come crashing down.
Our homes are worth less, people are losing their jobs, and many people are desperate. Easy access to credit, sub-prime and wildly
adjustable mortgage rates, no doc mortgages, and enticement by credit card companies are what has gotten us into this mess. Many changes
are going to take place before this election in 2010. As economic plans are implemented it is important to remain positive and to
realize that we all must work together to achieve the end goal. |

Health Care Out of control health care costs are one of the biggest
issues facing our country. People should not have to choose between health care and feeding their families. People should not have to forego
being treated based upon how much money they have. Unfortunately, insurance companies have far too much power in the Unites States. Medical
care should not be in the hands of the companies who determine an individual's expendability based upon where they fall on a chart. Medical
care has lost its humanity. Any politician worth his or her salt should be behind major health care reform. |

Energy Science We need to continue to encourage the development of
alternative fuel and energy sources in order to relieve American consumers of rising costs and to decrease our dependence on foreign oil.
Development of alternative energy sources will help to create new jobs and improve our existing infrastructure. The U.S. must invest more
money in science to expand use of renewable energy, end dependence to foreign oil, and fight global climate change. We need to develop new
energy technologies. Educational opportunities must be expanded in order to develop the next generation of scientists, engineers, and
technically skilled personnel in energy-related fields. |
Civil Rights I would not have voted for the Patriot Act. It is foolish
to back a plan to compromise your Constitutional rights even in a time of crisis. I would like to think that Americans have far more ingenuity
and insight as to what we are actually trying to preserve. By compromising our rights, aren't we essentially acquiescing to terrorists? |

War & World Conflict Supporting two wars has placed an unusually
high burden on the American public both in the cost of human life as well as in a financial sense. When we as Americans send the world's
finest military abroad, the reasoning should be clearly defined and the ends should justify the means. |

Veterans' Issues It is time we stop shortchanging our veterans and
create a system in which the men and women who defend our country can get the health care they deserve. It is time to address the backlog of
requests for benefits. Its time to make the system work again. |
